Kampala — A peaceful approach backed by Muslims right
from the grassroots will be used to remove Mufti
Sheikh Shaban Mubajje from office, the Kibuli-based
rival Mufti, Sheikh Zubairi Kayongo, has said.
Kayongo said there would be no violence used, but
Mubajje would leave a 'disgraced man'. He was on
Sunday speaking at Obed Lutale's Dhuwa at Haji Asadu
Lutale's home in Butambala county, Mpigi district.
Asadu Lutale is the Kamuli resident district
commissioner. Obed, who was murdered in 1978, was the
father of the head of sheikhs of the Kibuli faction,
Obed Kamulegeya and Asadu Lutale.
Kayongo, who was the chief guest at the ceremony,
said the conflict among Muslims would be resolved
without shedding blood.
"Our misunderstandings should not be seen as a
religious split that may cause social and political
anarchy, but as an issue that will be resolved as
brothers," he said.
Kayongo, who was heavily guarded by armed men, said
Mubajje's credibility was deteriorating, while his
team gained strength.
"I was elected by people who matter and know the
grievances of the Muslims," he said.
Kamulegeya thanked the Government for ensuring
Kayongo's safety.
"Since Kayongo's election, we have had no death
threats. This is an indication that our cause is
true," Kamulegeya said.
Kayongo will visit Kamuli district tomorrow.
