18 May 2009 AMMAN, (PIC)-- Amr Mousa, the Arab
League Secretary General, on Sunday asserted that the
real danger in the Middle East region was the Zionist
nuclear program and warned that 2009 is the last
chance for peace in the region.
Mousa addressing a seminar on future of peace in
the Middle East, which was held on the sidelines of
the world economic forum in Jordan, said that the Arab
countries would not table their initiative for ever.
Asked what the Arabs' option was if the initiative
was not accepted, he said that there was no other
option but resistance.
The Arab top official said that majority of Arabs
do not find any danger in the Iranian nuclear program,
adding, "Why should we engage in a debate with Iran on
nuclear issues and forget about a similar issue with
Israel".
He affirmed that the real danger from a nuclear
military threat comes from Israel and not Iran,
adding, however, that the Middle East was not in need
of any additional military nuclear program.
Israel remains tight-lipped regarding its nuclear
program, which media and intelligence sources
estimated had reached the manufacture of nuclear
warheads long time ago, and that Israel is now in
possession of 200 nuclear warheads at least that could
be fired from the ground and sea.
Israel is threatening to strike Iranian nuclear
facilities in what it called a preemptive strike.
Mohammed Al-Baradei, the director of the international
atomic energy agency, had warned that attacking Iran
would be a big foolishness.
Hamas refuses to get dragged into waiving
Palestinian rights
MP Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, the spokesman for the
Hamas parliamentary bloc, stated Sunday that his
Movement balances between the need for ending the
internal rift, and not getting dragged into the square
of waiving the Palestinian rights and falling into the
same trap that Fatah had walked into when it
recognized the Israeli occupation.
In a press statement to the PIC, Dr. Bardawil
stressed the need for reaching a package
reconciliation agreement implemented simultaneously in
Gaza and the West Bank, rejecting the attempts to
impose Fatah point of view regarding the elections.
As for the reported news that Egypt would pressure
Palestinian rivals to reach a reconciliation before
the end of next month, the Hamas lawmaker said that
this an Egyptian point of view, adding that Cairo
expressed concern about the long period which the
Palestinians were taking to reach an agreement.
With regard to the proposal of forming a joint
security force only in Gaza, the lawmaker confirmed
that this is utterly unacceptable, adding that the
right way to deal with the security file is the
re-building of the Palestinian security in both Gaza
and the West Bank on professional and national
foundations away from dealing with the Israeli
occupation.
The lawmaker pointed out that any approval to the
rebuilding of the security apparatuses only in Gaza
means that the West Bank security apparatuses are
given a certificate of good conduct and acquittal on
their role against the Palestinian resistance and
their security coordination with the Israeli
occupation.
Bardawil deplored some Fatah leaders for accusing
Hamas of practicing media instigation and violations
in Gaza, saying that Hamas only exposes the facts and
the violations committed by Fatah on the ground and
does not use dirty language as some Fatah leaders
deliberately use in media outlets.
The MP underlined that when his Movement talks
about violations in the West Bank, it does not slander
anyone, but it depends on statistics and names of
hundreds of Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in PA
jails and has confirmed information about torture
cases inside these jails.
