17 May 2009 Mogadishu — Sheik Yusuf Mohamed Siad
(Indho Ade) one of the Islamist rebels has defected to
the Somali government, sources said on Sunday.
Government ministers close to president Sheik
Sharif Sheik Ahmed told Shabelle Media that the leader
with 11 battle wagons left from former Past Factory,
his base in north Mogadishu overnight and entered to
the presidential palace.
The Islamist rebel leader is expected to meet with
some government ministers in the presidential palace.
There is no word from the rebel leader and the
government has not talked about the issue officially
yet.
Yusuf Mohamed Siad had previously told Shabelle
radio that he handed over his weapons to his brother
referring to the Islamist, opposition leader Sheik
Hassan Dahir Aweys.
ICU Says They Will Not Tolerate Anyone Against the
Peace Process in Central
Sheik Abdirahman Ibrahim Ma'ow, the chairman of the
Islamic Courts Union administration in Hiran region in
central Somalia has said on Sunday that they will not
tolerate the people who are against the peace process
in the region.
The chairman told Shabelle radio that they are
carrying on security and peace keeping operations in
the region assuring the security of the region adding
that they will never endure the people who reject the
peace process in the region
"We are working the peace of the region and we will
take a legal step to those who neglect the peace and
stability of region," Sheik Abdirahman said.
Asked about threatens from the groups against them,
Sheik Abdirahman Ma'ow replied that they do not worry
about that saying they are member of the people of
region and will keep the security of the security of
the region.
The statement of the ICU chairman in Hiran region
Sheik Abdirahman Ma'ow comes as there have been
clashes between forces loyal to the Islamist
organization of Al-shabab and the Islamic Courts Union
in the region recently.
