Iran Wraps Up Presidential Election Campaign
11 June 2009
Campaigning for Iran's hotly contested presidential election wrapped up on Thursday after three weeks of mass rallies and a series of fiery television debates. Friday's poll has emerged as a tense race between incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his main challenger, Mir Hossein Mousavi, who is seeking a comeback after two decades in the political wilderness. The two other candidates are former parliament speaker Mehdi Karroubi and ex-head of the elite Revolutionary Guards Corps, Mohsen Rezai. Polls open on Friday at 8:00 am (0330 GMT) and may remain continue until midnight depending on turnout, election officials have said.
