World Asked To Take Note Of India’s Use Of Brute In Occupied Kashmir
10 June 2009
Srinagar: The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged the international community to take notice of the use of brute force by Indian troops against peaceful demonstrators in occupied Kashmir. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemned the unprovoked firing on the peaceful protesters by the troops in Shopian, yesterday, injuring several demonstrators. He pointed out that India would not be able to stifle Kashmiris’ voice for right to self-determination by such tactics. The President of Bar Association of occupied Kashmir, Mian Abdul Qayoom, addressing a press conference in Srinagar, today, demanded of India to revoke draconian laws, withdraw its troops and come forward in a serious manner to resolve the Kashmir dispute, once and for all. The Jammu and Kashmir Jamaat-e-Islami, Mahaz-e-Azadi, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl and Farooq Siddiqi in their separate statements took strong exception to the use of indiscriminate force by Indian troops against the demonstrators in the territory. On the other hand, students at colleges all across occupied Kashmir took to the streets to register their protest against the rape and murder of two women by the troops in Shopian. They raised high-pitched anti-India and pro-liberation slogans. The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi continued to remain under house arrest while Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Saleem Nunnaji and other Hurriyet leaders are under illegal detention. In Islamabad, the APHC-AJK chapter organised a sit-in in front of the United Nations Observers’ Office to protest against the stepped up Indian state terrorism in occupied Kashmir. It was led by the Acting Convenor, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar. The Executive Director of Kashmir Institute of International Relations, Sardar Amjad Yousuf, addressing the 11th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, in Geneva, said that Kashmir dispute could only be resolved through relevant UN resolutions on Kashmir. »
