UK Kashmiri Representatives Condemn Indian State Terrorism
20 June 2009
London (KMS): Representatives belonging to UK-based All Parties International Kashmir Coordination Committee have strongly condemned the Indian State terrorism perpetrated in occupied Kashmir urging the international community to take a strict cognisance of the issue. The representatives of various Diaspora organizations, speaking at a news conference in London, denounced the rape and murder of two women in Shopian and the Indian police brutalities against the protesters and the arbitrary arrest of Kashmiri leadership. The representatives included the Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, Maulana Bostan Qadri, Professor Zafar Khan, Professor Riaz Ahmed, Mohammad Ghalib, Dr. Misfar Husain and Dr. Zahoor Ali. Noting that Amnesty international has already taken a notice of Shopian, they maintained that other human rights organizations must follow the suit and raise their voices for bringing culprits to justice. The representatives welcomed the statement of Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani citing Kashmir dispute as the real cause of discord between India and Pakistan and that the people of Jammu and Kashmir should decide their political future according to their wishes and aspirations. They also greeted the statement of US Under Secretary of State William Burns and expressed hope that America would play its role in bringing peace in South Asian region. The Co-ordination Committee underscored the need to include Kashmiri leadership in any future dialogue between Pakistan and India saying that without their participation the negotiations could not be successful and move forward as had been the case in the past six years. » Kashmir Centre EU delegation meets President Zardari delegation from International Council for Human Rights (ICHR) Kashmir Centre EU and the All Party Group on Kashmir from the European Parliament met President Zardari of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, in Brussels. James Elles requested the Government of Pakistan to support the steering committee of the Rolling Global Discourse on Kashmir in organising civil society interactive dialogues between Islamabad, Muzaffarabad, New-Delhi and Srinagar in full collaboration with KC.EU and the APGK. He also emphasized the need for trans-Atlantic dialogue if significant progress is to be made on the issue of Kashmir. Barrister Tramboo urged the Government of Pakistan to highlight the continued gross human rights violations that take place in occupied Kashmir at all levels, including the Human Rights Council, particularly the issue of mass graves. President Zardari affirmed his continued commitment to find a resolution to the Kashmir conflict and stated that he “salutes the sacrifices” that the people of occupied territory had rendered. Noting the peaceful nature of the movement within occupied Kashmir President Zardari pledged his commitment to resolving the issue. »
