The council of ministers hoped the developments would be "a step towards further consolidation of security and prosperity of Lebanon and the restoration of its regional and international role," the official news agency SPA reported. They said Saudi Arabia was "standing by Lebanon and its people to strengthen its (Lebanon's) stability, integrity and sovereignty." Hariri, son of slain ex-premier Rafic Hariri, was named Lebanon's new prime minister on Saturday following his bloc's win in parliamentary elections held on June 7.
