Pakistan’s Zardari, Singh Meet: Move To Help Resolve Kashmir Dispute?
18 May 2009
Srinagar (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has termed the meeting of the Pakistan President, Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh at Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a welcome step, saying that it will help resolve the Kashmir dispute peacefully. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house arrest for last several days, in a statement issued after a meeting of the Executive Committee of APHC held at his residence said, “The stalled peace process is regaining momentum which is a welcome step. We hope that the issues will be solved now with a preference to the core dispute of Kashmir.” About the Shopian incident, he criticised the pro-India leaders for trying to politicise the shameful incident and distort the case but people would never tolerate the attempts. Earlier, a meeting of the Executive Committee of APHC held at the residence of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, strongly condemned the arrest and slapping of PSA on a 14-year-boy of Rainawari, Srinagar, and termed it as worst form of human rights violation. The participants of the meeting said that they would not take rest till the punishment of the involved persons in the Shopian incident. “We know that there are attempts being made to hush up the matter but we will not allow that to happen. We strongly demand that the guilty be unmasked”, the meeting maintained. Meanwhile, senior leader of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt in a statement has said that dialogue is the only solution to all vexed issues including the Kashmir dispute. “We consider the dialogue as one of the most effective weapons to achieve the breakthrough in terms of settlement of Kashmir and other issues,” he added. »
