Indian Troops Continue To Violate Human Rights In Occupied Kashmir
9 July 2009
The Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (R), Farooq Siddiqi has said that the unabated, repetitive and perpetual abuse of human rights by India through its dissolute and immoral administration in occupied Kashmir has reached to its lowest standard of governance. Farooq Siddiqi in a statement issued in Srinagar said, the occupation authorities use rape of women as a weapon of war and shield the Indian troops with impunity that utilised the judiciary as means of suppression to stifle the voice of freedom. He said that hundreds of thousands of Indian troops had been deployed to create a fear psychosis in the masses so that the illegal occupation of Kashmir by India was safeguarded. Farooq Siddiqi said that the malicious and discriminatory way that India and its stooge administration had dealt in Shopian double murder and rape case, the way it had been flouting the court orders with respect to JKLF-R leaders, Muhammad Saleem Nunnaji, Farooq Ahmed Dar and other pro-freedom leaders to keep them under incarceration, reflected the nervousness of the puppet Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. The JKLF-R Chairman said that Kashmir was not a law and order problem but an issue of right to self-determination of millions of people. He appealed the people to make the March towards Lal Chowk on July 14 a success. » Forceful demos against troops’ atrocities in Shopian hundreds of people of various Shopian villages staged protest demonstrations against frequent night raids of their houses and the arrest of youth by Indian troops. The residents of Meemandar, Vihil, Wawnad, Habdipora and many other villages staged protests after the troops entered Meemandar village and raided many houses and arrested some youth. Soon after the arrests, the victim families used public address system in the mosques and asked the people to come out to stage late night protests following which hundreds of people assembled and staged demonstrations. Amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the villagers in the form of a procession marched toward Shopian town. On the other hand, people took to the streets at Maiusma and staged a sit-in demanding the whereabouts of Asrar Mushtaq Dar, 20, who has been missing since Friday evening. The protesters blocked the busy Budshah Chowk for more than three hours. Indian police personnel cane charged them and fired a number of teargas shells in which at least five persons were injured. According to the family members Asrar, a 2nd year student of Islamia College, left his home for gym near Barbarshah on Friday evening. He had taken his motorcycle with him. “At around 7:00pm he called up that he was on his way to home but he didn’t return,” they said. “At around 9: 30pm, he again called up saying that he was near Nowshera. But after that we couldn’t establish any contact with him as his mobile phone was switched off,” they added. »
