Kashmir Is World Accepted Disputed Territory: Indian Troops Enjoy Full Impunity
26 July 2009
The Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl has said that Kashmir is an internationally accepted disputed territory, recognised by the Security Council of the United Nations. Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl in a statement in London said, one of the glaring realities is that the dialogue process would become a futile experience unless the parties concerned accept the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it was a declared position of the people of Kashmir that their struggle was for attainment of right to self-determination and the right was non-negotiable. He pointed out that South Asia required peace and reconciliation for stability, security and welfare of millions of people. Professor Shawl condemned the politics of vengeance and undemocratic practices of Indian administration in the occupied territory. “Booking the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani under the black law, Public Safety Act is an act of greatest vengeance because of his age and his failing health”, he added. He also called upon the world community and international human rights organisations to intervene and put pressure on India to come to the negotiation table for amicable solution of the long-standing dispute over Kashmir so that permanent peace could be established in South Asia. » Indian troops continue to enjoy full impunity in Kashmir Indian police personnel and troops continue to enjoy impunity killing as many as 25 innocent civilians without any reason during first 200 days of the present puppet administration led by Umar Abdullah. A local English Daily ‘Kashmir Times’ reported that on an average, there had been a killing on every 8th day of the Abdullah regime's 200 days and that too without any accountability. From the killing of a 40-year old deaf and dumb man outside the residence of the puppet Chief Minister, on day one of his assuming office, to the murder of an 11-year old boy Khalid Sharif Mir by the troops, despite registering cases the penalisation had not seen light of the day, it said. On January 16 2009, a teacher, Mohammed Aslam and his mother, Halima Begum were killed by army personnel at Kakras Sarbi in Doda. On June 4, a youth who was injured in troops’ action on demonstrators at Barzulla in Srinagar succumbed to injuries in a local hospital. 17-year old, Nisar Ahmed Mir was struck by a teargas shell, which resulted in his instant death. At least 700 people were injured by the troops’ atrocities against the demonstrators, protesting against the Shopian incident.
