Obama Behind The Mask Over Kashmir As International Conference Kicks Off

Washington, July 27 (KMS): The US President Barrack Obama, for constraint of his time could not speak at the 10th two-day International Kashmir Conference at the Capitol Hill attended by over 350 delegates from all over the world and in his message for the Conference he stated that he valued the invitation and with sincere regrets expressed his inability to address the conference. The Conference organized by Kashmiri American Council/Kashmir Centre Washington and American Association of Humanitarian Lawyers caught the attention of many international leaders and received encouraging message from global leadership. Those who sent their messages included Secretary General United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, former US President Jimmy Carter, former US President George H Bush, Former US President Bill Clinton, Governor General Australia Ms. Bruce, Prime Minister of France, Prime Minister Bondevik of Norway, President Taryaa Halonen of Finland and Prime Minster Harper of Canada. All of them had expressed their best wishes for the success of the conference. The Conference attracted lots of US think tanks and opinion makers for both the days. The conference participants agreed to respect and support the inalienable right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir recognised by both Pakistan and India and endorsed by the United Nations. Messages were also received from all top leaders of occupied Kashmir like the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik and illegally detained leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah. In their message these leaders called upon the global leadership to impress on the Government of India to end its reign of terror in Jammu and Kashmir, release all political prisoner and play a pro-active role in the resolution of sixty two year old Kashmir dispute. Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai reminded the Obama Administration of resolution number 45 which was adopted by the United Nations Security Council on April 21, 1948, and was not only co-sponsored but also co-authored by the United States. He appealed for serious engagement of the US with both Pakistan and India for a speedy resolution of the festering Kashmir problem that has so far consumed more than one hundred thousand human lives, including incalculable loss of property and brutal violation of the honour of women. »
