Philippines Government Soldier Continue To Open Fire, Hit More Civilians In Maguindanao
11 July 2009
Two civilians had sustained gun shots after a soldier belonging to the 64th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, 6th Infantry Division opened fire couple of days ago at Barangay Dapiawan, Datu Saudi Ampatun. Maguindanao. Report said the incident took place Thursday around 930m while the government soldiers and civilians went for marketing at Sitio Town in Dapiawan. Thursday is the market day in Dapiawan. Accordingly, the unidentified soldier, wounded from gunshot, fired indiscriminately towards civilians, who were also in the area for marketing chores. The market day was disrupted as buyers, sellers and civilians had panicked. However, witnesses said the soldier sustained the gunshot on his foot from his own caliber pistol that fell off on the ground. The wounded soldier opened fire indiscriminately to the civilians at the market, believing that one of the innocent civilians shot him, added the witnesses. Lalag Diaw, seven years old grade 1 pupil, and Zainab Maliga, 48 years old were wounded by the indiscriminate firing of the soldier. They were brought to Tamondong Hospital in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, for medical treatment. Appropriate assistance is direly needed by the victims, a relative conveyed to Luwaran.com. Perhaps, concerned individuals and institutions, especially from government must provide assistance to these victims of indiscriminate shooting by government soldier. If government can quickly provide assistance to non-Muslim victims of the recent bomb blasts then same treatment is expected to be afforded to Muslim victims. Only non-government institutions and humanitarian groups were not remiss in providing assistance to Muslim victims. Why is this government so discriminating, if not unjust, to the Muslim victims of the ongoing military operations in Maguindanao for almost a year now? Could it be because the government treats them as reserve enemy forces as pronounced by the AFP recently? Meanwhile, the 54th Infantry Battalion, Philippine at Datu Gumbay fired indiscriminately using high powered firearms and artillery after its detachment was allegedly harassed by guerilla forces of MILF last night. No casualty and damages were reported yet as result of the AFP indiscriminate firing.
