MILF Calls For Impartial Investigation On The Strings Of Bombings In Mindanao
13 July 2009
Even being put at the center of all accusations as the perpetrator of the recent powerful bombings that rocked several areas in Mindanao since last Sunday, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front still showed its real mettle and composure by calling to immediately do the right thing in this igniting scenario. The MILF believes that under this situation, the right to do is to conduct an impartial investigation rather than finger pointing which only muddle and inflame the situation. Eid Kabalu, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs Department and Spokesperson of MILF military organization, in an interview, said “the most prudent and reasonable action to be done immediately is to conduct an independent, in-depth and impartial investigation on the spate of powerful bomb blast that stunned the cities of Cotabato and Iligan and the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte and Sulu in the span of beginning July 4.” “The recent bombings that resulted to the deaths of more than a dozen of innocent civilians and severely injured nearly 100 individuals were serious incidents. That’s why conduct of no non-sense investigation is imperative,” the Kabalu stressed. But the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) had already pointed to MILF as the perpetrator swiftly after the bomb explosions even without the merit of any investigation, much less, solid evidences. Scores of individuals from cross-section of society appealed not to easily accuse any group like the MILF as the being behind the bombings. National political figures also appealed not to conclusive tag the MILF as behind the blast if without evidence to prove the accusation. MILF is also being asked to cooperate in efforts intended to address the prevailing situation. Kabalu, meanwhile, gave the assurances of MILF’s full cooperation in any effort towards finding the truth and rendering justice on the spate of bombings in Mindanao. “Even if the MILF is an accused party just like the AFP, but we are ready to cooperate as required and practicable because the MILF also want to find out the truth and give justice to the victims,” Kabalu said, adding “the MILF has nothing to hide from the people it supposed to protect and serve.” Kabalu downplayed the AFP accusations that the MILF has been training its forces on bombings and that the recent string of explosions were test mission. “If there are ongoing trainings on bombings then that is not by MILF,” he said.
