Israeli Minister Changes Arab Names Of Palestinian Cities
13 July 2009
Israeli minister of transportation and road safety Yisrael Katz has ordered a change in all Arab names of Palestinian towns and cities that appear on signs on the streets into Hebrew names. Hebrew daily Yediot Ahronot on Monday quoted the minister as saying that Jerusalem from now on would be called Yerushalayim and not Jerusalem and in Arabic the word Al-Quds would be erased and instead the word Yerushalayim in Hebrew would be written. He also said that Nasera would be written Nazareth and Akka would be written Akko and so on. The paper quoted Katz as saying that none would name Yerushalayim as Al-Quds not in this government and certainly not this minister. The decision is another form of Israeli racism against Palestinians and an attempt to deprive them of their simplest rights mainly naming their own cities in their own language. Israel plans to settle 15,000 Jewish fanatics in Wadi Ara The Arab center for alternative planning in 1948 occupied Palestine has warned that the Israeli housing ministry was planning to install 15,000 Jewish Haredim (fundamentalists) in Wadi Ara area south of Haifa. Raja Khouri, the director of the center, said in a press statement published on Saturday that the Israeli ministry had already started planning the city that is expected to include 3,000 housing units to accommodate 15,000 Jewish Haredim. The director called for an urgent consultation meeting for Arabs in the area to discuss means of foiling the racist scheme. Wadi Ara is witnessing a growing Israeli demolition streak of Arab homes at the pretext of lack of construction permit. Netanyahu: Recognizing Jewish nature of Israel key to peace Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu has underlined that recognizing the Jewish nature of Israel was the key to peace in the Middle East. Netanyahu, in a speech on Sunday, said that Palestinians should recognize Israel as a "Jewish state" and give up the right of return. The premier's racist demand was met with complete rejection on the part of all Arab countries. Netanyahu's demand would turn Israel into a racist state with no place for non others but Jews and would give it the right to expel all non Jewish citizens. Jordanian papers on Monday lashed out at Netanyahu's call, describing him as deceitful. They said that a lasting, comprehensive and just peace is based on ending occupation first and foremost. Jerusalem and Aqsa are facing most dangerous scheme since 1948 Dr. Talib Abu Sha'ar the minister of endowments and religious affairs said that the city of Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque are facing the most treacherous scheme since the Zionist occupation in 1948. He said, in a statement on Friday, that the demolition orders continue to be handed to Jerusalem citizens on a daily basis, the latest of which was a batch of eight demolition orders handed to eight Palestinian residents of the Selwan neighbourhood to the south of the Aqsa Mosque. He added that another 88 Palestinian homes in the Bustan neighbourhood were also threatened with demolitions so that the Israeli occupation could build Talmudic gardens linked to the alleged temple. The Minister further condemned Zionist plans to hold gigs, just outside the Haram wall opposite the Marwani prayer area of the Aqsa Mosque, to market the rebuilding of the alleged temple, adding that holding those gigs at the outside doors of this prayer area (called by the Israelis Solomon's Stables) reinforces reports about Israeli plans to take over the Marwani prayer area and convert it into a synagogue. He also condemned the arrest, by the IOF, of the Aqsa Mosque Imam and his banishment to Jericho on the grounds that he does not hold a Jerusalem ID card. He called upon Muslim governments and people to defend the holy city, its Palestinian residents and the Aqsa Mosque in the face of these evil Zionist schemes.
