Zimbabwean Musician Snatches Two Of His Children’s Wives: Legendary Love For Women?
11 August 2009
Harare — CELEBRATED mbira player Sekuru David Tafaneyi Gweshe has been accused of snatching two of his children's wives, amid claims that the artiste's love for women was affecting his music career. The father has denied all the allegations. Theartiste's son, Solomon (32) described his father's love for women as "legendary". "That old man is up to no good," he said. "He has been dating his daughters-in-law. To date he has snatched two of his wives from my brothers. Sadly, one of them was married to my late brother, Innocent. "With his profile, he should not be doing that, because he is setting a bad example to the fraternity. Who would want to admire such an old man?" Solomon said his father lacked professionalism, leading to an exodus of members from the Boterekwa Dance Company. "All his band members have since left him. He has a problem with ladies and he can't pay band members properly. Of course, he might complain about the recession, but that old man does not have focus at all. All he thinks of are women and nothing else," he says. Solomon, who is backed by the Deepest Roots of Africa, says his father was increasingly becoming jealous of him because all his band former members have joined his son's band. "At a time when I am trying to rebuild my band, my father is busy spreading lies that I took his band members. He has been moving around trying to tarnish my image and I will not tolerate all that nonsense. "For your own information, he recently toured Switzerland, but returned home empty-handed and I know that he splashed a lot of money on women. Right now, I am just praying that he leaves me alone to concentrate on my music career." Solomon alleged his father was so bankrupt he was now begging for money to look after his wives. "My father was never responsible to my mother. He does not like me because I don't attend most of his rituals. He hates me because I am making a lot of progress at my workshop and musically," he said. Sekuru Gweshe responded with outrage to his son's allegations, dismissing the young man as "a misguided missile". "I think Solomon is going too far. How can he say I am jealous of his career when I know very well that he is a total failure in life? To me, he has failed dismally. "As for this issue of him taking over my band, I am hearing of it for the first time from you. I groomed them and Boterekwa is a big band which produces more people." Sekuru Gweshe says his son's reaction was fuelled by the fact that he (Gweshe_separated from Solomon's mother a long time ago. "Another problem that I think is worrying him is that I separated from his mother after a lot of misunderstanding. If I were to take her back, I can assure you that Solomon and myself would be the best of friends." But what about allegations of dating his daughters-in-law? "As for this issue of Chipo, who he claims was Innocent's wife, I married her in a proper way. At times, it happens that some children covet their fathers' wives and vice versa." Sekuru Gweshe said he now doubted that Solomon was his "real blood". "At times, I ask myself several times whether he is my blood, because he is very strange. Right now, he is worried because I am making a lot of progress. I have just extended my house and bought a new car, when I returned from Switzerland. I can make more money than he can," he said. This is not the first time the two have washed their dirty linen in public. Some time in 2006, Solomon claimed he was assaulted by people he "believed" were thugs hired by his father.
