Yasmeen Raja: India State Os Terrorism And Use Of Brute Against Kashmiris
5 August 2009
Srinagar, (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the APHC leader and Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Yasmeen Raja has called upon India to come forward and take concrete steps for creating a conducive atmosphere for holding a dialogue for resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with Kashmiris’ aspirations. Yasmeen Raja in a statement issued in Srinagar while condemning the use of force against peaceful protestors at Press Enclave in Srinagar on Wednesday urged the Indian authorities to refrain from such activities and immediately release illegally detained Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Aasiya Andrabi, Mohammad Saleem Nunnaji, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and Mushtaq-ul-Islam. She also expressed concern over the deteriorating health of Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan in the detention. Yasmeen Raja maintained that all the draconian laws including Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Public Safety Act and Disturbed Areas Act should be revoked. She added that demilitarisation of Kashmir would create a congenial environment for resolution of the dispute and prosperity in South Asia. Yasmeen Raja while paying glowing tributes to senior APHC leader, Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz on his first martyrdom anniversary said that the mission of martyrs would be taken to its logical conclusion. She appealed to the international humanitarian organisations to take cognisance of the situation of occupied territory. » Indian police encourages HR violations: Human Rights Watch Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch, an internationally recognised human rights organisation, has said that India should take major steps to overhaul its policing system that facilitates and encourages human rights violations. Human Rights Watch, in its recently released 118-page report, said that India had failed to deliver on promises to hold the police accountable for abuses and to build professional, rights-respecting police. The report said that Indian Police had been committing a range of human rights violations including arbitrary arrest, detention, torture and extra-judicial killings due to impunity. It said, police operates outside the law, lacks sufficient ethical and professional standards. »
