Hamas Reiterated Israeli Siege Failed In Its Goals: Zionists British Weapons
9 August 2009
Meanwhile, Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya stated Friday, during a ceremony held to reinaugurate Al-Yarmouk stadium, that the Israeli siege failed in its objectives and in breaking the will of the Palestinian people. Premier Haneyya said that the reopening of the stadium sent a strong and clear message that the blockade failed to achieve its intended goals, expressing hope that the Palestinian people would build stadiums and sport institutions in Jerusalem, the capital of the Palestinian state, after its liberation. He highlighted that this stadium is considered an achievement for every Palestinian athlete and for the football federation and the olympic committee. The premier hailed the Gaza municipal council for renovating this stadium, saying that such achievement is a step forward in the face of the siege. In the framework of the ceremony, a number of Palestinian officials including premier Haneyya played a football match against former players who were honored on the sidelines of the ceremony.
Britain intends to reconsider exports of naval spare parts to Israel Meanwhile, the Russian Novosti news agency reported that London declared its intention to reconsider 182 permits for exporting military spare parts and products to Israel used in its gunboats and frigates. The British government explained that the Israeli military boats which need maintenance participated in operation cast lead in Gaza. For his part, Israeli columnist Jeremy Sharon said that such a decision denied Israel its "right to self-defense". This British government’s decision on banning the supplies of spare parts for Israeli naval vessels could negatively affect the performance of those vessels.
